Welcome to the Borough of Fieldsboro, New Jersey.

We are a modern-world class borough that is proud of our historical roots that go back to 1750.  We take pride in our borough.

Whether you take a stroll along our walking paths in our Park along White Hill Mansion, or order an amazing pizza or an Italian meal from Mario & Franks, or stop for a cold beer and delicious wings from the Cool Cricket, or get a great bottle of wine from Vintage Vineyards or Liquor Mart, the borough is ever-evolving as a beautiful community.

We have strong historical roots and are grateful to Val Sassaman, who provided all the historical pictures of our borough and those historical pictures are exhibited exiguously throughout our website. Val also provided this old newspaper article of our borough history from 1832 - 1868 and reads as follows:

"Fieldsboro District No 14. The first school house in this place, or White Hill, as it is usually called, was erected in the year 1832.  It was a low one-story brick building, with gable to the street in the quaint old-fashioned style. This structure was built on Third Street.  This building built in 1832, was occupied for school purposes for thirteen years, the first teacher being Kirkbride Eastburn.  The second street school house was built in 1845, at the corner of Hamilton and Second Streets, on land given for the purpose by Thomas and Isaac Field.  It was a two story frame, the lower story being occupied by the boys and the upper story being occupied by the girls.  In the course of the years the number or pupils increased so greatly that the school became much crowded.  At first it was purposed to enlarge the building, but after due deliberation, it was decided to build a new and larger one instead, which was accordingly done in 1864 at a cost of four thousand dollars.  The old one was sold and removed some few rods distant and converted into a tenement-house. This present house is of brick and stands on the ground occupied by the previous one; it is two stories high, well built, and furnished with modern school furniture. The school was reorganized and partially graded in 1868, under the charge of Mrs. M.P. Field, principal and two female assistants." (Source: Unknown source of article from 1868).

Fieldsboro, incorporated in 1850, is the smallest municipality in Burlington County. Early land records identify the area as White Hill. One of its early settlers was Robert Field, who owned a wharf on the Delaware River, several businesses and a large farm. (Source: Devry Becker Jones, 2020).

By 1750, White Hill was a small river port. White Hill is also the name of the second Field home, a large brick manor house which overlooks the Delaware River. During the Revolutionary War, when British forces controlled Philadelphia, American frigates and gunboats were stranded here. General Washington ordered the American fleet burned to prevent the British from capturing it. (Source: Devry Becker Jones, 2020).

In 1804, entrepreneur Jonathan Rhea of Trenton purchased land from the Field estate, mapped out a town and began selling lots. His narrow alleys and closely spaced houses remain today. The area became known as White Hill Station when the Camden and Amboy, one of the nation's first railroads, arrived here in the 1830s. The C&A located its primary train shop, shipping wharf and repair facility between White Hill village and Black's Creek. (Source: Devry Becker Jones, 2020).

Our borough is historical in nature and is ever-evolving since the days of 1750.  We are proud of our past history and the historical introduction of our new website in December of 2024.

The main goal of our site is to provide a user-friendly experience and your access point to local government.

Our website provides information that is often requested and needed for our residents. Soon our site will be equipped for the bill pay option, which is estimated to be completed by Jan 30, 2025.

The bill pay feature will allow you the option to pay your water and sewer bill and taxes online. To use the optional bill pay feature, there is a minimal fee that is standard and charged by our vendor for each transaction. This fee is paid directly to our vendor to keep your transaction safe and secure. The fee is minimal.

Our selected bill pay vendor, Edmunds, is currently working on building this feature for us. If you click "bill pay" at this time, you will be redirected to our vendor Edmunds bill pay site until that option is completed for us.

You will still have the option to pay in person with our Clerk, Patrice.  All tax payments can continue to be paid in person also or mailed by your escrow accounts.

The in-person option to pay your bills will not change. We are adding bill pay online only as a convenience measure for our residents of the Borough of Fieldsboro.

Please sign up for our announcements on our notification page so you can get any updates from our borough in real time.

We hope you enjoy our new website, which is a significant milestone for our community.
